Founder, Sam Polk

Sam Polk is the founder of Groceryships, and the co-founder of Everytable. Prior to his innovations in food equity, Sam was a hedge fund trader on Wall Street. In January of 2014, Sam published an OpEd about leaving Wall Street on the front page of the Sunday Review in The New York Times. Sam has been featured on The Today Show, Morning Joe, CNN, Tavis Smiley, NPR, and many more. In 2016, his memoir, For the Love of Money was published by Scribner. He is a graduate of Columbia University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Executive Director, Dana Rizer

Dana is a lifelong food enthusiast and has been a dedicated student of the body for the past twelve years. She has a Master’s degree in Food Studies from New York University, and a whole foods culinary training degree from the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts. Prior to her work at Groceryships, Dana worked as a health consultant and wellness educator offering holistic nutrition education, yoga instruction, cooking classes and food consulting to groups and private clients. She has been a part of Groceryships' leadership team since the culmination of the first pilot program and has worked in every sector of the organization. She is the co-author of Groceryships 20-week curriculum alongside founder, Sam Polk, and is the developer of the Groceryships leadership training methodology. Since 2014, Dana has overseen ongoing program expansion and development, fundraising, program and organization management and administration. She has helped Groceryships grow from two groups to more than 50 (with more on the way). Under her leadership, Groceryships has helped impact the lives of 500 individuals and their families. Dana is also a 500-hour Advanced Registered Yoga Teacher, is currently a lead teacher at Wanderlust Hollywood, and has spent many years on the faculty of the Nosara Yoga Institute as a lead facilitator for their annual professional yoga teacher trainings.

Community Manager, Ana Guzman

Ana Guzman brings years of community leadership experience to Groceryships organizational team. Her leadership roles have included chairperson for the English Learners Advisory Committee, and chairperson for the School Site Council. Additionally, she has served as a translator, LAUSD district meetings representative, and parent board member for the Alliance Board of Directors. A graduate of the second ever Groceryships Group, Ana immediately established new partnerships with local schools and community centers, helping to spread Groceryships programs to additional neighborhoods in South LA. She has served as a Groceryships Group leader, organizer and recruiter, assisted with translating Groceryships' program into Spanish, and now manages the Groceryships Community Center, broadening our programing and deepening relationships with current Group members and alumni.
